Drive to Plovdiv (3, 5-4 hrs), en route stop over in Borovets, the oldest mountain ski resort in Bulgaria. Plovdiv is Bulgaria’s second largest city and one of the oldest in Europe. Its location astride the river Maritsa, and its six hills, which are prominent features on the Thracian plain, indicates the strategic significance of the city. It is one of the oldest and most colorful towns in Bulgaria. No one can tell exactly when the foundation stone was laid here, although it must have been over 5000 years ago. Old Plovdiv on Trimonzium hill is the centre of Bulgarian national revival architecture at its height. The irresistible charm of this city goes into your blood slowly. Here the Hills meet the Valley and the River... and so the Legends were born. Dinner in a local restaurant in the Old city. 2 day – PLOVDIV- Bachkovo monastery – SOFIA
Hot breakfast at hotel.Morning sightseeing tour of Plovdiv, including the Old city (walking tour). Visit the Roman Theatre (2nd c. AD) and one of the old houses, now turned into a museum. Walk along the narrow cobbled streets and admire the silence and tranquility of this historic town.
Drive to Bachkovo monastery, founded in the 11th c. This monastery is now valuable primarily for its ossuary and its church, in which 11th to 14th century frescoes are preserved. Early evening drive back to Sofia, where tour ends.
